About the Program

Our Main Stage program produces professional-quality full-length musicals. Some of our recent productions include: Young Frankenstein, Beauty & the Beast, and The Prom.

The goal of the Main Stage Program is to provide a platform for teen and young adult actors to explore their love of musical theatre in a supportive and inclusive environment. Casts typically range in age from late high school to graduate school. Each production is staffed by East End contractors, who have years of experience in their field, and is rehearsed in our studio space in Rumford, RI. Shows are performed in a rented proscenium theatre and feature a full set and backdrops, as well as professional sound and lighting.

Our Main Stage program does have competitive auditions, where not every auditioner is guaranteed a part. We do try to include as many participants as possible in each show, but please be aware that not everyone who auditions will necessarily receive a part.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Currently, our Main Stage program is geared towards actors aged 18-27. If you will be aging into or out of that bracket within a month of auditions, you may still audition and participate. Some shows will have limited roles for younger actors, depending on the needs of the script. Review the audition page and/or the audition flyer for specifics for each show.

  • The best person for the role will be offered the role. We do not assign roles based on age.

  • No, you do not need any specific experience in order to audition. That being said, previous experience with public speaking, singing, and/or dance is often helpful.

  • The mission of our organization is to serve youth & young adults. We have selected 27 as our age cut-off as this is around the time that students have finished up any post-grad degree programs, or are beginning to transition into full-time jobs and next chapters of adult life.

  • Absolutely. We are happy to be flexible with any and all conflicts for rehearsals, as long as we know about them and can build the schedule around them in advance.

  • For each production, East End charges a participation fee, which helps to cover the expenses for costuming each actor. There is no cost to audition for this program; once the show has been cast, participants are expected to pay a $100 participation fee prior to the first rehearsal.

  • Rehearsals are held twice per week, on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:00-9:00pm.

Please Note: Out of respect for our cast's time, not every actor will be called to every rehearsal, and most actors will not be called for the full rehearsal each time (especially in the beginning of the rehearsal process). We use a scheduling doc called the "Production Timeline" to indicate when each actor is called. See the Information Packet on the Main Stage Audition page for more details.

  • Our Main Stage shows audition in October/November and are performed in February.
